Kathryn Ann Waller was born and raised in the picturesque city of Savannah, Georgia, where her journey into photography began. At just sixteen, she discovered her love for capturing moments through the lens of her first camera. Since then, she has immersed herself in the art, dedicating her time to perfecting her craft and shaping her distinctive style.

A few years ago I found this book, Family Houses by the Sea. I find a lot of inspiration from the water and I know that comes from a childhood full of water, beach, boating. This book and the photography in it is a moodboard for a lot of my work, which is pretty natural and not too staged. I want my subject to always feel comfortable, even if it is a house. I’ve pulled some photos of mine that I would add to the book if I could. I’m sure and hopeful that this collection will grow by thousands over my lifetime but here are a few for now 🌊📸

Coming after the hustle of a busy shopping weekend, I wanted to reflect. In March I made the leap to full time as a photographer, it’s been a big year with ups and downs and countless lessons on owning a business. On the harder days, I remind myself of the support I’ve received from strangers and friends to get here!

Photography is my passion but so is art and design. As I unpack from a recent move, I am having fun styling my space with pieces I’ve thrifted or collected from local artists and small businesses. Most everything here (besides the plates) was made by a local artists or bought from a thrift/small store. This Holiday season, I encourage you to shop small and support an artist when you can. It’s easy to go to big retailers - we all do it. But when you do, consider their artist collaborations (like Anthropologie) or ways to support small businesses through those purchases. This year, for the book lovers in my life I’ll buy from the local store here (same prices, better impact). Gifts like towels, candles, bar accessories will also come from a small business.

I’m reminded everyday that one extra person who supports my work is one more reason to keep taking pictures. Even if it’s just one gift, that one extra purchase makes a difference.

My constant (and longest) support system over the last 12 years as a growing photographer 📸 the second picture I took the day before senior year on my new GoPro. All the others have been taken by various cameras I’ve owned since I was 14 - a lot has changed, a lot hasn’t. First one of us gets married this weekend….so I’m reminiscing on all the good times we’ve had together. Out of all the cool work I get to do, my most cherished photos are the ones of my friends and family. I’m always glad to have these photos ♥️ Plus, I know they have benefited a little bit from having a photographer friend too 😎 😌
